Abstract

756,579. Supply systems for lifting magnets. ELECTROMAGNETS, Ltd. Oct. 11, 1954 [Dec. 8, 1953], No. 34055/53. Drawings to Specification. Class 38 (4). A lifting magnet is energized directly from a D.C. generator driven by an A.C. motor and provided with a separate exciter which feeds the field of the generator over a manually controlled calibrated multi-step reversing potentiometer, whereby the lifting capacity of the magnet may be determined as required and the polarity of the generator reversed for dropping the load. Spring bias must be overcome in order to move the operating member of the potentiometer into the reversing end of its track, whilst at the other end of the track-at which over-energization of the magnet obtains-movement of the operating member can also only be made against spring bias.
