GENERAL ELECTRIC CO., Ltd., and HUMPHREY, R June 4, 1954 [June 19, 1953], No. 17058/53, Class 38(5) A thermostat of the capsule or the like type comprises a diaphragm 7 arranged to move in dependence upon the vapour pressure in the capsule 1, a first member 14 being rotated about its pivot 23 by movement of the diphragm to operate a microswitch 10 by means of the edge 25, a second member 15, which carries the pivot 23 of the first member, being adjustable about its pivot 16 by means of a cam 26 on a control shaft 5 so that the effect of the diaphragm 7 on the member 14 can be controlled. A further adjustment may be made by means of a screw 20 attached to the member 14. The cam 26 may be shaped to give the thermostat an "OFF" position and the member 15 may be arranged to be latched to permit defrosting by means of a heating element or otherwise when the thermostat is used with a refrigerator, the unlatching at the end of the defrosting period being effected manually or by means of movement of the diaphragm as desired.
