756,305. Machine-tool details. SOC. ANON DES ANCIENS ETABLISSEMENTS C. BERTHIEZ. Nov. 16, 1954 [July 24, 1954], No. 33154/54. Class 83 (3). A compensating device for the sliding carriages of machine-tools comprises a resili.- ently-mounted roller, capable of slight axial movement, secured to a carriage and provided with a circumferential groove of circular arcshaped section, and a bar or the like of complementary section, supported by the carriage guide, on which the roller rolls. The toolcarriage 2 of a planing-machine slides along a horizontal guide-rail 1. A compensator to relieve the forces on the normal guide-surfaces of the rail is secured to the carriage by a bracket 7. The compensator comprises a roller 5 rotating about a pin 16 in a slidable cylindrical member 15 which has dished spring- washers 21 compressed between its upper end and a cover 19. The roller is capable of limited side movement and rolls along a rod 4 in an angle of the rail-member at the back of the upper normal guide-surfaces. The rod is retained by the presence of the roller and by abutments (not shown), on the rail engaging the ends of the rod.
