Abstract
756,174. Twist tubes. FRANCE, J. W., and HALLAS, J. E. March 24, 1954 [Dec. 24, 1952], No. 32730/52. Class 120 (2). Yarn is spun by passing sliver through two or more pairs of twisting rollers, the twisting rollers of each pair rotating about their own axes in opposite directions and about the sliver axis in the same direction. The drafting of the sliver takes place between the top and bottom roller pairs. Each roller pair is mounted in a housing 13 carrying a self-lubricating bush 15 wherein rotates a bevel wheel 17 keyed to a sliver tube 19. Arms 23 on the wheel 17 carry planet wheels 25 which engage with a spur wheel 27 rotatable on the sliver tube 19 and provided with arms to carry planet wheels 31. Attached to the upper end of the sliver tube 19 is a pulley 21 with a toothed internal surface engaged by the planet wheels 25, 31. The spur wheel 27 extends within a further pulley 33 to mesh with a further bevel wheel 37 carried in the pulley 33 to rotate rollers 47 about their own axes. A spring tension lever 51 urges the rollers 47 together. Instead of driving the pulleys 21, 33 by belts, gear, chain or other drives may be employed.
