Abstract
1,145,261. Multi-twist apparatus; stranding apparatus. G. H. HANSEN. 12 April, 1966 [13 Jan., 1965], No. 1491/65. Headings D1D and D1T. Multi-twist apparatus comprises a take-up frame journalled within an inner frame itself journalled within an outer frame, the frames being rotatable relatively to one another about a common axis; transmission means responsive to rotation of the outer frame to produce relative rotation between the inner and outer frames in one direction and between the inner and take-up frames in the otherdirection; means to feed yarns &c. to the outer frame in one axial direction, from the outer to the inner frame in the opposite axial direction; and from the inner to the take-up frame in the first axial direction; and take-up means in the take-up frame driven by transmission means responsive to relative rotation between the inner and take-up frames. The outer frame, Fig. 1, is rotatably mounted by coaxial shafts 16, 17 on upper and lower stationary members; shaft 17 is driven by a motor 19 which is reversible for S or Z twist, while shaft 16 is hollow. The inner frame is rotatably mounted on cross-members of the outer frame by shafts 21 (hollow) and 23, and the take-up frame is rotatably mounted on cross-members of the inner frame on shafts 28 (hollow) and' 26. Yarn &c. from several packages is led upwardly through shaft 16 into the outer frame; here it takes a path over a pulley 30, a guide 32 which conducts it over the outside of the frame, a guide 33 which returns it inside the frame, and pulley 31. From this, the yarn &c. enters the inner frame downwardly through shaft 21 where it takes a path over a pulley 36, a pulley 38 on the outside of the frame, a guide 39 which returns the yarn inside the frame, and a pulley 37. Where the yarn is conducted over the outside of the inner and outer frames it passes through a groove in a nylon strip. The yarn enters the take-up frame upwardly through shaft 28 over haulpulleys 41 to be laid on a rotating package 42 by a rotating traversing-guide 46. The take-up package is mounted on centres carried by the take-up frame, one centre being on a pivoted part for ease of doffing. To rotate the package, one of two bevels on a shaft 58 carried by the take-up frame mesh a bevel 60 carried by the inner frame. As the frames rotate relatively, the shaft is rotated through a slipping clutch to drive pulley 56 which drives the package through an eccentric pin 52. The haul-pulleys are driven through change gears 61 from a shaft carrying a bevel 66 meshing a bevel 67 on shaft 28 which is fast with the inner frame. The shaft and haul pulleys are rotated when the two frames rotate relatively. The change gears are removably mounted on a curved arm pivoted at one end on the shaft of bevel 68, with its other end adjustably clamped in a fixed slotted arm. The degree of twist can be changed by replacing the change gears, or the pulleys, by others; the hand of the twist can be reversed by removing one of the change gears. The traversing-guide 46 is driven from the haul pulleys by a belt, or a chain and socket drive. To transmit drive from the outer to the inner frame, a shaft 69 carried by the outer frame, has a gear 70 meshing a sun 71 rotatably mounted on inlet shaft 16 of the outer frame but fixed relatively to the supporting- structure. Shaft 69 is therefore rotated as the outer shaft rotates and drives the inner frame through a gear 72 meshing a sun 74 fixed to the inner frame. To connect the drive to the take-up frame, the shaft 69 is connected to a shaft 76 through a second planet 73 meshing a sun 75 loose on shaft 23 and integral with a second sun 78 meshing a planet 77 on shaft 76. Planet 77 meshes a sun 80 fixed to the take-up frame. The inner frame is made to rotate oppositely from the outer frame and the take up frame is held stationary by selecting the tooth ratios in the transmission above described. Thus, when the outer frame is rotated by motor 19, the shaft 69 revolves about the central axis, and because gear 70 engages fixed gear 71, rotates about its own axis. Gear 72 therefore rotates gear 74 to rotate the inner frame and by suitably choosing the tooth ratio of the two gears, the outer and inner frames are made to rotate in opposite directions. If the tooth ratios of gears 70, 71 and gears 75, 73 are the same, because gear 71 is stationary, gear 75 anti gear 78 fixed to it, will remain stationary. But as the inner frame rotates shaft 76 revolves, and it is rotated by the engagement of gear 77 with stationary gear 78. If the tooth ratio of gears 79, 80 equals that of gears 77, 78, gear 80 and the take-up frame fixed to it will also remain stationary. The yarn receives components of twist as follows: one on upwardly entering tube 16, another on downwardly entering tube 21, a third on entering the inner frame rotating oppositely to the outer frame, and a fourth on leaving the inner frame upwardly through shaft 28. Additional frames may be included between the outer and inner frames each being arranged to rotate oppositely to its neighbouring frames with the yarn entering an intermediate frame in one axial direction and emerging from it in the opposite direction,. The various sum and' planet wheels may be replaced by sprockets and chains, or pulleys and "powergrip" belts.
