Abstract

756,157. Damping torsional vibrations. DAIMLER-BENZ AKT.-GES. May 15, 1953 [May 17, 1952], No. 13692/53. Class 108 (3). [Also in Groups XXIV, XXVI and XXVII] The crank-shaft 10 of a high-speed internal-combustion engine, particularly a sixcylinder engine, carries at the output end the usual flywheel 17 and at the other end a second flywheel 18 and a torsional vibration damper 19 mounted on the periphery of the second flywheel so as to be capable of relative movement thereto. The flywheel 18 and damper 19 are shown separate in Fig. 1 for illustration purposes only. The vibration damper may comprise two masses 22, 23 held apart by a spring 21 and frictionally coupled to the flywheel by friction discs 25, 26. Alternatively, the damper may comprise masses pendulously mounted on the periphery of the second flywheel and displaceable by centrifugal action.
