Abstract

755,898. Shovelling machines. NORTON, V. G. Dec. 3, 1954 [July 21, 1954],. No. 21337/54. Class 68(1) The means that can cause movement of an ejector plate 31 through an excavator bucket at any position of the bucket to a position outside the mouth of the bucket extends from the rear of the plate 31 through an aperture 27 in the top of the bucket and comprises an arm 37 and a link 38, the arm 37 being rigid with the plate and pivotally connected with the link 38. The link 38 is either connected to the piston rod 21 of an hydraulic ram 22 pivotally connected at the end of a jib from which the bucket is supported by a link and a crowd arm 4 or to the jib or crowd arm when the bucket is supported from the jib by the crowd arm and ram. The ejector plate 31 is pivotally secured on a hinge 18 by the rearward extensions 35 of bars 32 secured to the plate. The pin 18 is mounted in a bearing at the lower end of the crowd arm 4 and in bearings 29 at the front of the bucket. If the bottom of the bucket is a non-circular curve the plate 31 is so connected to the bucket through a sliding pivotal connection that the bottom of the plate always remains close to the bottom of the bucket during movement relative thereto. The curvature of the bottom of the bucket is always greater than the arc of travel of the digging edge of the bucket.
