Abstract
754,978. Supply and delivery arrangements for hot water storage tanks. RUUD MANUFACTURING CO. July 6, 1954, No. 19729/54. Class 64(1). A hot water storage tank 12 is connected to two outlet pipes 23, 39, of which one 23 receives hot water direct from the tank, and the other 39 receives hot water mixed with cold water. This enables the tank to supply very hot water for laundering or dish-washing machines, and cooler water for other purposes. The outlet 19 at the top of the tank is connected to the pipe 23 and to a mixer 26. In the mixer shown in Fig. 5, hot and cold water supplied to chambers 44, 45 flow through metering orifices 56, 58 into a central mixing chamber 46 which has an outlet 48 connected to the pipe 39. The metering orifices may be formed in plugs which are interchangeable when plugs 62, 63 are removed. A pressure-equalizing capillary passage 64 is provided. In a modified mixer, Fig. 10, the three water chambers are arranged side by side with the hot water chamber 79 at the centre. The cold water inlet and hot and cooler water outlets are at the top and the cold water chamber 82 extends below the hot water chamber 79 and is connected at the bottom to a pipe 86 supplying cold water to the bottom of the tank 12. A bleed tube 98 connects the cold water chamber 79 directly to the top of the tank, to reduce, the temperature there slightly and prevent siphoning of the tank contents if the cold water supply pipe is drained. In another form, Fig. 8, hot water and cold water flow to a mixing chamber 69 through metering valves which comprise rubber or like resilient apertured discs 72 which are variably distorted by varying water pressures, so that the size of the metering apertures are varied. Specification 643,262, [Group XXIX], is referred to.
