Abstract
1,142,404. Water heaters. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO. 25 Jan., 1967 [1 Feb., 1966], No. 3677/67. Heading F4A. [Also in Division B1] In an electric water heater 10 part of the cold inflow is guided at 30, Fig. 1, along the bottom of the tank and part passes up a duct 38 through a metering orifice 56, Fig. 3, into a chamber 42, where it is mixed with hot water from the upper layers drawn through metering orifices 45, and metering orifice 54, and thence to the outlet 58. The orifices 45 increase in size with vertical distance above the mixing chamber and may be replaced by tapering slots (see Fig. 6, not shown). An orifice 46 allows air to escape during filling of the apparatus which has an air space 52 above the water to provide a cushion against expansion due to freezing.
