754,730. Electric motor driving arrangements. TEDDINGTON AIRCRAFT CONTROLS, Ltd., [formerly TEDDINGTON CONTROLS, Ltd.]. Feb. 9, 1955 [Feb. 9, 1954], No. 3826/54. Class 35. [Also in Group XXX] An actuator mechanism comprises reversible motors 2, 3 for high- and low-speed operation respectively, the latter being connected through reduction gearing 15, 16 and a magnetic clutch 17, 19; 22 for disconnecting the slow-speed drive when the high-speed drive is in use. The motor used for low-speed driving may be of the same or smaller size than the high-speed motor. The high-speed motor 2 drives the pinion 7 of output reduction gearing directly through an input shaft 6. This shaft 6 carries the clutchdisc 22 having friction pads 12 engaging a spring-loaded clutch-plate 19 which also has slots (not shown) for driving by dogs (also not shown) extending from the last gear 17 of the reduction gearing of the low-speed motor. The clutch is disconnected by energizing an electromagnet 23 which disconnects the plate 19 from the friction pads. If desired the motor 2 may be separately disconnected and the motor 3 carries a normal electromagnetic brake. The slow-speed motor 3 is governed by means of friction, pads 25 mounted on spring arms 24 which are bent towards a stationary braking ring 26 by axially displaced weights 28. Alternatively a centrifugally operated switch may be used. The actuator is fitted with limit switches.
