Abstract

824,104. Friction clutches. ENGLISH ELECTRIC CO. Ltd. July 27, 1956 [July 29, 1955], No. 21929/55. Class 80 (2). [Also in Group XXXVII] The slip regulator for an induction motor (see Group XXXVII) is controlled by a reversing clutch of which the output member is a thin disc 15a keyed to shaft 14. Input members 15b, 15c have axially movable armatures 15d, 15e so that, when coil 15f is energized, the armature 15d is drawn into engagement with disc 15a, whereas energization of coil 15g engages the armature 15e with the disc. Since an idler pinion is interposed between gear-wheel 19 and armature 15d, the direction of rotation of shaft 14 is dependent upon which of the coils is energized. Instead of the single unidirectional motor 12 shown, two oppositely rotating motors may drive the gear-wheels 19, 20, and the pinion 18 dispensed with.
