Class 16 ' A memorandum appliance comprises a base 10 over which strips of paper 21 can be drawn from rolls 13 in a housing 15 at one edge and a number of window plates 19 hingedly connected to the opposite edge to be moved down over the strips 21 to hold them flat against the base 10 with surfaces exposed 'through the windows 20, each plate 19 being pivotally connected with a rod 26 mounted in the base in such manner that the plate may be disengaged therefrom by a sliding movement of the plate in a direction substantially parallel to the plane of the base 10. The base 10 comprises a flat portion 11 for writing purposes and a wall 12 for the paper rollers 13 which are positioned between U-shaped cradles 14 (not shown) or L-shaped cradles 29 with upstanding ends 30 separating the rolls. The housing 15 is hinged at each end to the turned back end 18 of a. wire spring 16 anchored by its U-shaped other end 17 to the base, the end 31 of the wire being engaged in a hole in the base, the wire 16 holding housing resiliently in either closed or open position. The window plates 19 are of channel section and the sides 23 are enlarged at one end to form lugs 24 having slots 25 to engage the rod 26, which is mounted in a slot 27 in the base 10 and held in position by rubber sleeves 28 between the lugs 24. The windows 20 are preferably rectangular and the opposite ends of the plates 19 are upturned at 22 to be engaged by the lips of the housing 15. To hold the plate 19 firmly on the rod 26, the slot 25 may have a convexly curved side 32. The outer end of each window may have one or more downwardly presented tongues to engage the free edge of the strip so that the strip may be easily grasped. The edge of the window plate may be used for tearing off the paper.
