Abstract
753,972. Cycle brakes. SUDDEUTSCHES JLO WERK GES. Sept. 27, 1954 [Sept. 28, 1953], No. 27811/54. Class 136 (2). In a brake hub having an axially shiftable conical member 1 co-operating with a correspondingly conically shaped hub member 3 acting as a brake jacket, the conical member 1 is furnished with a lining 4, the thermo-conductive value of which is smaller than that of the members 1 and 3. The conical brake is actuated by the spindle drive 5, 6 on back pedalling.whilst release of the brake takes place by means of springs 7, 8. Three weak springs 7 are provided having a comparatively long path of movement between three more powerful springs 8 of short movement. The stronger springs 8 lift the conical brake member 1 away from the jacket 2 when the brake force transmitted by the spindle drive 5, 6 ceases. Braking of the spindle drive movement is effected only by the weaker springs 7. The springs 7 also assist in the release of the brake. A freely movable brake disc 9 is provided between the member 1 and the spindle drive. On release of the brake the disc 9 rubs on the one hand against the end face 11 of the conical member 1 and on the other hand against the end face 10 of the free wheel cone 5 to retard the spindle drive. Alternatively the brake disc 9 may be attached to either the end 11 of the member 1 or the end 10 of the member 5.
