Abstract

1,171,359. Disc brake. MESSIER. 4 May, 1967 [11 May, 1966], No. 20835/67. Heading F2E. A disc brake wherein the caliper 1 is connected to a support 2 by a shaft 5 and is slidable thereon to compensate for pad wear, has the shaft 5 positioned so that the resultant of the braking forces passes substantially through the axis of the shaft. The caliper is additionally provided with a notch 15 engaging a sleeve 8 on a pin 7 secured to the support. The brake pads 6, 6<1> are removable through an opening 9 in the caliper, the pads being retained during brake operation by pins passing through lugs 13. In another embodiment where the full opening 9 is not provided, Figs. 4, 5 (not shown), the caliper may be swung outwardly about shaft 5, when the pin 7 has been removed, to permit access to the pads. The shaft 5 may be secured in lugs 4 in the support and slidably engage an opening in the caliper, as shown, or may be secured to the caliper and slidably engage the lugs.
