717,350. Disc brakes. AUTOMOTIVE PRODUCTS CO., Ltd. March 24, 1953 [March 28, 1952], No. 8029/52. Class 103(1) The invention relates to several constructions of single disc spot type disc brakes of the type in which the actuators are disposed on one side only of the disc. In the arrangement shown in Figs. 1, 2, 3 and 5; the two fluid pressure actuator cylinders 47 have their inner ends projecting through the side 22 of a carrier member 21 and urge a single pad into engagement with the disc 24, the reaction being taken by an oppositely disposed pad mounted against the opposite side 23 of the member 21. The carrier member 21 is pivotally mounted on a pin 31 carried in the ear 29 of a bracket 27, pivotal movement being restrained by a spring pressed friction washer 33. Pull off spring assemblies 54 act to release the pads. The fluid pressure actuator cylinders include automatic wear adjustment mechanism comprising a plurality of fingers 63 on a sleeve 62 which engage with a screw threaded rod 61. In the arrangement shown in Fig. 7, which is generally similar but intended for use as rear wheel brake, additional mechanical applying means for parking purposes comprise a rod 105 having a quick pitch thread acting in a part spherical nut 103 prevented from turning by its groove 103 being engaged by a projection 104 on one side of the carrier 73. The rod 105 is rotated by a pull rod 112 acting through an arm 113. In another arrangement shown in Fig. 13, the brake is mounted on a bracket having spaced ears 117, 118 carrying by pin 125 a carrier member having sides 121, 122 ribbed for strength. The fluid actuator cylinders have automatic wear adjustment mechanism comprising a sleeve 142 which wedges with balls 145. In another arrangement shown in Figs. 15 and 16, also intended for rear wheel brakes, there is only a single actuator cylinder and hand operation is carried out by rotation of an arm 191 by cable 192 to turn a disc 186 so that balls 187 ride up the sides of conical recesses and apply a thrust through the sleeve 193 and rod 195. During return movement of the arm 191 a pawl 198 holds the sleeve 193.
