Abstract
The component yarns of a cord are impregnated with a phenol prior to formation of the cord, and the formed cord is treated with an aldehyde to form a resin. The yarn may be composed of nylon, viscose rayon or cotton. The phenol may be resorcinol and may be incorporated with a finishing agent applied to the yarn or may be applied as a separate aqueous solution. The aldehyde, which may be formaldehyde, may be applied under alkaline conditions as an aqueous solution or as a vapour, e.g. by incorporating caustic soda in an aqueous solution of formaldehyde, or may be applied from a bath containing rubber latex. The treated cord may be heated at 100 DEG C. to condense the resin fully. The cord may be made into a weftless fabric and a vulcanizable rubber compound applied thereto by calendering. The rubber is then vulcanized by heating.ALSO:The component yarns of a cord are impregnated with a phenol prior to formation of the cord, and the formed cord is treated with an aldehyde to form a resin.
