Abstract

753,362. One-way clutches. FORMSPRAG CO. Feb. 3, 1954 [Feb. 24, 1953; Dec. 7, 1953], No. 3225/54. Class 80(2) A sprag assembly for a one-way clutch is formed so as to be insertable as a unit between the clutch race members G, H. The sprags have channels D, E, the former receiving an annular ring B and the latter :a garter spring F which biases the sprags into frictional engagement with the raceways. The ring B may be of spring form, may be of rectangular or circular crosssection, and may engage an annular groove in the clutch member H to locate the assembly in position. The ring B may also have, on one or more of its faces, projections which lie between and space adjacent sprags. In a modification adjacent sprags are separated by a roller which engages the clutch members G, H, and has an annular groove forming a passage for the spring F and ring B.
