752,928. Machines with permanent magnets. T. I. (GROUP SERVICES), Ltd. March 17, 1955 [March 31, 1954; Sept. 22, 1954], Nos. 9389/54 and 27366/54. Class 35. An inductor-type cycle hub generator has an annular rotor 10 having at its inner periphery two staggered sets of teeth 12 surrounding a stator comprising two coils 23, 24 embracing an axially polarized permanent magnet 15 having at its ends toothed pole-pieces 18. Each pole-piece 18 is transversely fitted to the magnet 15 and has two staggered sets of diametrically opposed teeth 21, 22. The rotor and stator pole-piece teeth have the same width and pitch. When the pole-pieces are mounted on the magnet 15, the teeth 22 of both pole-pieces are in alignment with each other, and the other teeth 21 are also aligned with each. As the rotor revolves with the hub, the flux from the magnet 15 alternates in its flow via the pole-pieces 18 according to the position of the pole-piece teeth 21 or 22 relative to the rotor teeth 12. Thus, when pole-piece teeth 22 are in alignment with one set of the rotor teeth 12, the flux flows to embrace the coil 23 or 24. As the rotor revolves one tooth pitch, the flux flows to embrace the other winding.
