752,573. Obtaining fibres from raw material. NOVIVLAS N.V. Feb. 3, 1954 [Feb. 7, 1953], No. 3231/54. Class 120 (1). In a method of obtaining from bast fibre stalks fibres suitable for immediate working up into sliver, a stock 8 of stalks is replenished by hand and a dosing apparatus 1 feeds therefrom bundles 9 of stalks of uniform weight at uniform intervals of time. The bundles are conveyed by feed means 5 to breaking apparatus 2 and thence by feed means 6 to hackling apparatus 3 whence the fibre is conveyed by feed means 7 to sliver-forming apparatus. The feed means operate at a uniform speed so that the rate of flow of material passing any given point in its path of travel is substantially constant.
