Abstract

1,160,131. Break spinning. TURNER BROS. ASBESTOS CO. Ltd. 11 April, 1967 [25 April, 1966], No. 18071/66. Heading D1D. In a method of break spinning yarn wherein the yarn is formed in an air vortex, the yarn is mechanically twisted on leaving the vortex. As shown fibres (e.g. of asbestos, cotton, waste cotton, waste wool, reclaimed man - made fibre) are fed in an air stream through a converging passage 13 (see Fig. 4 not shown) tangentially into a cylindrical chamber 12. The air forms a vortex about an upstanding member 18 and the fibres are laid onto the tail 17 of a yarn being withdrawn downwardly from the chamber through rollers 23, 24 The tube 19 through which the yarn leaves the chamber, a base 21 and the rollers 23, 24 are rotated to insert twist into the yarn. Thereafter the yarn is wound into packages. The constituent fibres are conveyed by a conveyor (1), see Fig. 1 not shown, to a blender 2, the fibres being discharged in a stream to pass to web forming apparatus (32, 33). The web 5 is then folded and passed to a carding device from the doffer of which the fibres are carried in an air stream. This air stream is then split into a number of conduits to feed a plurality of side by side chambers 12. The air from the chambers is collected in manifolds (14) passed through sieving device whereby fibres are returned to conveyor (1) and then passed via a fan (15) to the atmosphere.
