Abstract
752,430. Actuation of switches. GENERAL MOTORS CORPORATION. Sept. 29. 1954 [Oct. 8, 1953], No. 28082/54. Class 38(5) In a pressure controlled switch, suitable for the starter motor circuits of automobiles and responsive to engine suction, reduction in pressure due to suction through a tube 38 on a diaphragm 32 causes a bridging member 28 to move against the bias of a spring 30 and to disengage contacts 24 and 26 thus opening a circuit; when the suction ceases a valve (40 and 42) closes and the switch is prevented from closing until sufficient air has entered through an orifice 62 to restore the pressure thus providing a time delay. A plunger 48 attached to the bridging member passes through and is movable in the plate 22 and has grooves 50 and 52 which may each be engaged by a spring loaded ball 54, thus providing catches which oppose the movement of the bridging member and form a snap action device.
