Abstract

752,427. Stepped grates. MORING EN STEENAART N.V. Aug. 31, 1954 [Sept. 28, 1953], No. 25280/54. Class 51(1). In a stepped grate for a furnace each step comprises two stationary grate bars having a rotatable grate bar interposed between them, the rotatable bar of each step other than the top one being located vertically or substantially vertically below the stationary grate bar which is nearest the furnace in the next higher step. Each of the top two steps of the grate of the boiler plant shown comprises stationary bars 5, 6, flanking, one on each side, a rotatable bar 7. The lowest step only comprises bars 6, 7. Each bar 5 is water filled, inclined and of droplet shape the point of the upper bar being directed towards the lower one. Each bar 7 comprises a sleeve rotatable about a fixed water filled tube 8 the sleeve being provided with longitudinally disposed ribs or teeth. Each bar 6 is of strip-like form directed downwardly and outwardly from the furnace towards a clinker collecting conveyer belt 10 which carries clinker deposited thereon to an ash pit 11 and may be driven by the same power source as the bars 7. The bars 7 are periodically or continuously rotated dependent upon the combustion rate. The bar rotating means may be controlled by means responsive to the temperature or pressure of the boiler medium while at the sane time means may be employed rendering it possible to adapt the de-clinkering rate to the ash content of the fuel used. An undergrate blast fed to the furnace via the stepped grate cools the bars 6.
