Abstract

293,461. Crossley, J. S., and Turri, C.Gr. July 7,1927,[Convention date]. Grates; fuel, feeding.-Fuel is supplied to and burnt within a hollow cylindrical grate by carrying it well into the interior of the grate intermediate of its ends and dropping it upon rapidly rotating circular firebars the fuel being distributed and caused to progress during combustion to circular firebars of greater diameter. As shown in Fig. 1, the grate comprises a series of circular bars 1 at the front and a series of circular bars 2 at the rear, the bars 1 being of increasing diameter towards the rear and forming a stepped conical surface. The bars are formed in sections secured together by longitudinal members and the bars 1 are provided with ribs 7. Passages 8, 8<a> are formed between the bars 1 and provide for the admission of air and outlet of ashes. The ends of the grate are provided with tracks 22 which rest on pairs of rollers 23 adapted to be driven. The grate is enclosed by a casing 9 having one or more air admission openings 10. Fuel is fed to the grate by a trough 17 which is supplied with fuel from the . hopper 15 and then advanced into the furnace and inverted.
