Abstract

A foam which when applied to the surface of a volatile product prevents its evaporation contains a non-volatile sealing-liquid, small hollow gas-filled hole-free particles of a material inert to the volatile products and the sealing-liquid (e.g. synthetic resins, cellulose derivatives, proteins and alginates), the particles having an average diameter of less than 500 microns, and a liquid displacement of from 0.05 to 0.6, the sealing liquid being present in from 40-80 per cent by volume and the particles from 20-60 per cent by volume so as to make the density of the foam less than that of the volatile product, and 0.05 to 5 per cent of the sealing liquid of a gelling agent. The particles and sealing liquids may comprise those described in Specifications 743,866 and 752,345. Specified gelling agents are bentonites, finely divided silica, carbon black, high melting point waxes and soaps, e.g. aluminium stearate.ALSO:A foam which when applied to the surface of a volatile product prevents its evaporation contains a non-volatile sealing liquid, small hollow gas-filled, hole-free particles of a material inert to the volatile products and the sealing-liquid (e.g. synthetic resins, sodium aluminate and silicate, cellulose derivative, proteins and alginates), the particles being an average diameter of less than 500 microns, and a liquid displacement density of 0.05 to 0.6, the sealing-liquid being present in from 40-80 per cent by volume and the particles from 20 to 60 per cent by volume so as to make the density of the foam less than that of the volatile product, and 0.05 to 5 per cent of the sealing-liquid of a gelling agent. Specified gelling agents are bentonites, finely divided silica, carbon black, high melting point waxes, and soaps, e.g. aluminium stearate. The sealing-liquid may be a hydrocarbon oil such as white oil. Specifications 753,866 and 752,345 are referred to.
