Abstract

752,166. Sewing-machines. KEFERSTEIN, C. G. July 26, 1954 [July 31, 1953], No. 21773/54. Class 112. In attaching a welt to footwear of the kind which, during manufacture, have an inner sole 5 and an upper 6 assembled to provide a rib 4 projecting from the edge of the inner sole underface, the welt is sewn around the root of the rib by a lock-stitch sewing-machine, and the rib is supported on both sides during the sewing operation. As shown, the rib 4 and the edge 7 of the upper are gripped between a worksupport 35 and a presser-foot 25 while a weltstrip 30 is being sewn thereto. The worksupport is formed with a slot 40 giving passage to a work-piercing and feeding awl 21; and the welt-strip is fed through a guide 26 which is combined with the presser-foot and which folds over the lower edge of the strip so as to overlie the edge 7 and abut an extension 51 of the presser-foot.
