Abstract
752,013. Delay coils. TELEFUNKEN GES., [formerly TELEFUNKEN GES. FUR DRAHTLOSE TELEGRAPHIE]. April 30, 1954 [April 30, 1953], No. 12693/54. Class 40 (8). [Also in Group XL (c)] Parts of a delay coil are constructed elastically so that its electrical length can be varied by subjecting the parts to a tensile or compressive stress. Two oppositely directed windings 1, 2, Fig. 1, may be tightly wound on a rubber former 3 in such a manner that they are not movable relative to the rubber. It is shown in the Specification that both the inductance L and the capacitance C of the coil are substantially inversely proportional to the length of the coil former so that as the former is expanded the L/C ratio and hence the characteristic impedance remain substantially constant as the delay time of the coil is increased. The coil may have a single winding 2, Fig. 3, upon a tubular rubber former 1A into which is inserted a rod-shaped return conductor 3A. The two windings may be in the form of spiral springs either unsupported or supported upon a coil of rigid material. The delay coil of Fig. 3 may be disposed around the circumference of a drum one end of the coil being anchored to the drum and the other end to a fixed point in such a manner that rotation of the drum causes a change in length of the delay coil. In the arrangement of Fig. 5 several delay coils 1C are connected in series and arranged side by side between two supports 2B, 3B the latter of which is movable to effect variation in delay time.
