Abstract

751,875. Mixing appliances. HOOVER, Ltd. Feb. 22, 1954 [March 18, 1953], No. 5198/54. Class 86. [Also in Group VI] A blender consists of an open-topped receptacle 10 having in its lower part cutter or blender blades 37 mounted to rotate about a horizontal axis and driven by a power unit 12 of a mixing machine of the kind in which the power unit is normally mounted on a pillar 14 to overhang a base 11 on which a mixing bowl is normally placed to receive a pair of beaters depending from the power unit. The blender blades 37 are mounted in a recess in the receptacle 10 formed by a screw-threaded tubular flange 26. The blender spindle 33 which carries the blades 37 is journalled in a bearing 32 in a cap 27 screwed on to the flange 26. The pillar 14 is formed with a recess 20 adapted to receive the flange 26. A tubular extension 34 on the cap 27 is located within a corresponding tubular extension 22 within the recess 20. A rubber sealing ring 29 clamped between the cap 27 and a shoulder 30 on the flange 26 serves also to frictionally hold the flange within the recess 20, and if desired a groove may be provided in the wall of the recess 20 to locate the ring 29 more positively. With the power unit 12 mounted on the base 11, a power take-off coupling 36 on an extension of the motor shaft 18 engages a power receiving coupling 35 on the blender shaft 33. A curved bottom wall 25 of the container guides any solids under treatment into the tubular flange 26 where they are disintegrated or comminuted by the blades 37. The open top of the blender may be closed by a lid 38 frictionally held in place by a resilient ring 39.
