Abstract

751,510. Oil gas. SOC. DE CONSTRUCTION D'APPAREILS POUR GAZ A L'EAU & GAZ INDUSTRIELS. Feb. 18, 1954 [Feb. 20, 1953 ; April 16, 1953], No. 4851/54. Class 55(2). In a cyclic oil gas manufacturing process in which liquid hydrocarbons are cracked in the presence of a catalyst bed or mass the hydro. carbon is injected into a vaporizing chamber as a spray of droplets and hot gasification medium is introduced laterally with respect to the spray and so that it passes between the spray and the chamber wall the mixture then passing to the catalyst. In a plant-heating phase oil tar, or gas and air enter a combustion chamber a through inlets i k, excess air being admitted tangentially through an inlet l. The hot gases pass downwardly through vaporizing chamber b<SP>1</SP> and a catalyst bed from the top of which deposited carbon is burnt off. The refractory lining of the vaporizing chamber is swept by the gases entering tangentially. In the gas making phase steam or other gasification medium enters the heated combustion chamber through an inlet m and sweeps round a conical spray of liquid hydrocarbon from an atomizer d axially arranged in the vaporizing chamber. Gas generated within the catalyst bed is withdrawn through a pipe h to a washer. The two phases are separated by purging stages in which steam is passed through the gas making chamber. Refractory checkerwork may be placed in the combustion and gas making chambers and the connecting duct e, and the catalyst bed may be covered with a layer of small refractories. The vaporizing chamber may comprise a separate empty or packed chamber and be traversed by the heating gases before or after the gas making chamber. A steam boiler, air heater &c. may be interposed between the combustion chamber and gas making chambers. The heating and make gases may traverse the combustion and vaporizing chambers in opposite directions. Several superposed catalyst beds may be provided.
