A filler for an expansion joint 3 consisting e.g. of a strip of fibrous wood 4 between layers of concrete 1 on a base of paper 2 comprises an inverted U-shaped rubber strip 10 vulcanised to the vertical legs of angle irons 6 the horizontal legs 7 of which are secured to the underlayers 2 by U anchors 8 before an upper concrete layer 12 is poured in the usual manner to adhere firmly to the angle irons 6 and to the anchors 8. To increase the adherence of the concrete to the angle irons 6 the latter may be provided with a rough surface, or with one, or more, projections. If desired, the space 11 within the strip 10 may be filled with sponge rubber.
