Abstract

751,409. Coating bakers' and confectioners' goods. NATIONAL BISCUIT CO. April 30, 1954, No. 12578/54. Class 28(1). Edible articles are coated with material heated to slightly above its melting point e.g. 32‹C. for standard chocolate, and sprayed through nozzles by means of heated compressed air. Articles 2 are carried on a band 1, e.g. of wire fabric, under nozzles 3 fed with coating material 4 from a container 5 and compressed air from a compressor. The container 5 is enclosed in a heated water bath 7 and has a stirring mechanism 9 and a distributer head 10 from which the coating is fed through distributer tubes 11 to nozzles 3. The compressed air is sucked into the compressor through a dust filter and is then passed through a filter to remove oil and moisture before it reaches an air pressure tank from which it is passed through a further filter to render it odourless. After pre-heating in copper coils 8 in water bath 7 the air is fed to the nozzles 3 by the distributer 12. After coating, the articles are carried through a cooling passage 18. A container 13 collects surplus coating and band 1 is cleaned by rubber rollers 14. The nozzles 3 are adjustable and exchangeable and the spraying chamber 15 is closed and temperature conditioned.
