[Also in Group V] Pieces of foodstuff are dusted by directing a stream of air with entrained food dusting powder towards such pieces and withdrawing the air, collected near the pieces along with unused powder, by suction. The bakery plant, Fig. 1, comprises a dough hopper 10, a divider D, a rounder R, a proofer P and a moulder M from which latter the dough pieces are conveyed for further processing including baking. Two sets of dusting equipment are provided one of which feeds flour or the like to the divider D and rounder R while the other feeds flour or the like to the moulder M. In the service tank T of each dusting equipment, compressed air is fed on to the surface of powder therein so as to form a cloud of powder which passes out of the tank through a conduit 20 and manifold 21 to pipes 22 and 24, 25 which deliver powder-laden air to dusting chambers 23, Fig. 3, and 26, Fig. 6, in the divider and rounder respectively. The tank T is automatically replenished from a reservoir B. Suction ducts 27, 28 connected respectively to dusting chambers 23, 26, remove excess dusting powder to main duct 37. Dusting chambers 31, 32 are provided at the moulder M but are similar to chamber 23 except that one has two nozzles. Chamber 23, Fig. 3, is mounted over conveyer 11 and comprises an inverted box 61 into which pipe 22 with a nozzle 62 extends and fans the powder out on to the conveyer. A hood 64 is mounted over box 61 and this has a duct 66 leading to one of the suction ducts so that excess powder is removed. The dusting chamber 26 is formed in the top of the rounder R. Nozzles 70, 71 attached to pipes 24, 25 enter through the roof 72 of the dusting chamber and excess flour or the like is removed through duct 75. In a modification, Fig. 7, a dusting chamber 84 is provided for dusting rolls during manufacture, the dusting powder being blown in from the sides of the conveyer. The dusting equipment is substantially the same as that described in Specification 666,164, [Group XXIX].
