Abstract

751,373. Electric discharge tubes. PHILIPS ELECTRICAL INDUSTRIES, Ltd. Jan. 29, 1954 [Feb. 3, 1953], No. 2767/54. Class 39 (1). [Also in Group XIX] A tube for selecting one of a plurality of channels in response to binary input information has a plurality of electrode systems the electron beam or stream of each being deflected independently and striking simultaneously a plurality of anodes equal to.half the number of channels, the anodes being connected so that in any combination of the positions of the beams, the anodes of one particular channel are not struck and can be utilized to make a triode conductive. In Fig. 1, each system comprises a cathode k, electrode c, anode z, deflection plates d, d<SP>1</SP> and anodes 1 to 8 arranged as shown in groups of four. Each channel is connected to anodes of the same numeral. The systems may be arranged with parallel axes one above the other with a common cathode. Fig. 3 illustrates a tube with three systems stacked round a common cathode, each with four rod anodes inside the control and attraction grids g<SP>1</SP>, g<SP>2</SP> and four rod anodes outside the grids, the potentials on grid g<SP>2</SP> permitting flow to the outside anodes or deflecting it on to the inner anodes. Screens s<SP>1</SP>, s<SP>2</SP>, s<SP>3</SP> separate the systems. Anode rods may be common to two or more systems and the anodes may be plates or strips. Two, four or more electrode systems may be combined for 4, 16 and more channels.
