Abstract
751,353. Waveguides. METROPOLITAN. VICKERS ELECTRICAL CO., Ltd. April 14, 1954 [April 14, 1953], No. 10211/53. Class 40 (8). [Also in Group XL (a)] A corrugated waveguide for a linear accelerator has a first section A in which the diameters of the iris apertures progressively increase and the waveguide diameter progressively decreases, and second and third sections B, C in which the diameters of the iris apertures and of the waveguide remain constant, but the diameters of the iris apertures are larger in section B than in section C. In section A electrons are bunched about a stable position in advance of the wave crest, in section B the bunches are retarded to the trailing slope of the wave, and in section C the electrons remain in the final position relative to the wave crest which they reached in section B. The output energy of the accelerator is varied by varying the input power.
