Abstract
751,187. Making magnetic polepieces. FIAT SOC. PER AZIONI. July 20, 1954 [Aug. 18, 1953], No. 21162/54. Class 83 (2). In a method of making curved flanged members such as polepieces for dynamo electric machines having a cylindrical body C, Fig. 4, with a flange 14 surrounding one end and lying in a cylindrical surface a disc 10, Fig. 3, of metal is bent to arcuate shape and forged between dies to form the body C and flange 14, the peripheral portion 30 of the blank being deformed towards the concave face of the flange. The forging dies are so shaped that the inner and outer cylindrical radii R, R1 are equal so that the flange 14 tapers towards the ends. The formed blank is finally trimmed at the edges 18, 19, Fig. 5A, to the required shape. The central hole 13 may be punched in the initial arcuate blank which may also be phosphatized to improve the flow in the forging operation.
