In a steam power plant, salts are removed from the return flow condensate by tapping-off a portion of the condensate at a point after the condensate pump 2 or the cooler 3 of a steam-jet air pump, removing salts from the tapped-off portion in, say, ion-exchange apparatus 6, and returning said portion to the main stream of condensate at a point before the tapping off point, e.g. to a point in front of the pump 2 or direct to the condenser 1.
