Abstract

Textile material is impregnated with an organic peroxide, preferably in solution in a volatile organic solvent, and dried. The impregnated material may be wrapped around a burst pipe and an uninhibited, unsaturated alkyd resin which will set in the presence of the peroxide may be applied to the material. The material may be a tape of glass or nylon or a glass fibre mat or roving. The peroxide may be benzoyl or lauryl peroxide or 1-hydroxy cyclohexyl hydroperoxide-1, and the organic solvent may be acetone, methyl-ethyl ketone, methyl isobutyl ketone, diacetone alcohol, carbon tetrachloride or trichlorethylene. Prior to its application the resin may be mixed with a solution of cobalt naphthenate in white spirit or styrene. The resin may be "styrenated". Specification 713,332 [Group IV(a)] is referred to.
