Abstract

750,260. Printing processes; printing-surfaces. DIETZ, V. Dec. 4, 1953, No. 33864/53. Class 100 (2). [Also in Group XX] In a planographic printing process, the script image is applied to a hardenable colloid layer not more than 0.1 mm. thick on a support and already pre-hardened and containing roughening agents, by means of a substance which further hardens the colloid in a dry state under the action of light or by a reducing agent without light, and the surface is then inked and printing effected. The colloid may be gelatine prehardened by a formaldehyde. The drawing is effected by an ink ribbon or ink, directly on the layer for offset printing, or on paper and thence transferred to the layer for contact printing. Kieselguhr, starch or the like may be added to impart roughness, and glycerine to facilitate penetration of the hardening substance, which is in the ink. The further hardening is terminated by moistening. The hardening substance may be a bichromate or a diazo compound. The sensitivity of the colloid may be increased by adding copper chloride, ferric ammonium oxalate, ammonium sulphate, cobalt chloride, uranium chloride or manganese salts. Letters can be deleted by adding a strong alkaline solution such as ethylene diamine soda, or by a soft rubber. For hardening without light, chromic acid or salts may be added to the ink, and the reducing agent may be hydroxyamine hydrochloride or monomethyl-p-aminophenol sulphate. For example, the entire script image may be coated with a solution consisting of 4 gr. hydrazine hydrochloride, 20 gr. bydroquinone, 2 gr. sodium hydroxide, 50 c.c. water, and 924 c.c. alcohol. If aluminium nitrate is added to the ink, no light is necessary. For printing without moistening, Fel tauri inspissiatum may be added to the ink and the colloid, and glycerine to the ink.
