Abstract

749,880. Lanterns. SIEMENS ELECTRIC LAMPS & SUPPLIES, Ltd. Nov 19 1954 [Nov. 24, 1953], No. 32542/53. Classes 75(3) and 75(4). In a mounting arrangement for a lantern for a tubular electric lamp 27 an open topped horizontally disposed light transmitting vessel 1 is secured at one end to a mounting, plate 2 rotatably mounted on a fixed support 15 disposed horizontally so that the axis of rotation is below the plane of the top of the vessel and above the lamp; and a hinged cover 10 for the top of the vessel is provided with means for preventing rotation of the vessel when the cover is closed and the vessel is in operating position. The means for preventing rotation comprises a housing 20 for control gear which is attached to the inside of the cover 10 and engages with a flat on the fixed support 15. When the lantern is used with lamps not requiring control gear the housing 20 is replaced by blocks. The fixed support 15 is in the form of a bush having a split part tightened by screws 19 around a fixed horizontal tubular part of the lantern support and the mounting plate 2 has a projecting part 14 forming a bearing surrounding the bush. Another bearing is provided half way along the length of the lantern and consists of a pin 23 supported in a bearing carried at the end of a vertical arm on a bracket 24 cast integrally with a framework 7 supporting the vessel 1 and secured to the mounting plate 1, the pin 23 being secured to a bracket 21 extending from the fixed bush 15. Rotation of the fitting is limited by pin 18 on the bush 15 engaging the ends of a semi-circular cut-away in the bearing 14. The cover 10 is pivoted to the upper end of the rotatable mounting plate 2 and its free end is secured by a quick release catch 13 to the framework 7.
