Abstract

A cladding composition, e.g. for application to structural steel work, is adapted for mechanical application, e.g. by spraying, and comprises an aerated mixture of a solid aggregate, a non-cementitious binding medium, water and a stable foaming agent, e.g. "Teepol" (Registered Trade Mark.) A cementitious binder, e.g. portland cement, lime or plaster may be mixed with the solid aggregate, which may comprise asbestos, glass or mineral wools, or natural or synthetic fibres, sand or vermiculite. The non-cementitious binder may be bitumen, natural or synthetic rubber or rubber latex, natural or synthetic resinous material, e.g. polyvinyl acetate, which may be in the form of solutions or emulsions, or drying oils. A typical composition is:-20 pints of water to one of foaming agent converted by an apparatus, see Specification 695,111 [Group II], into 4 cubic feet of foam, into which 2 cubic feet of glass wool are slowly fed and mixed by the apparatus. Finally a gallon of bituminous emulsion is mixed with the composition in the apparatus to produce 4 cubic feet of cladding composition for spraying.
