748,988. Address-printing machines. STIELOW, J. H. B., [trading as STIELOW, J. H.]. March 15, 1954 [May 27, 1953], No. 7421/54. Class 100 (2). Stencilling apparatus. An address-printing device comprises a base, a manually-operated lever 1 pivoted at 1b to the base, an inking and impression roller 3 carried by an arm 2 pivoted at 2a to the lever 1, and a stencil holder 8 on the base into which a stencil cards can be placed or successively fed, the arrangement being such that when the lever 1 is operated the roller 3 first picks up ink and subsequently traverses the stencil so that a print is obtained therefrom; spring means control relative movement between the arm 2 and lever 1 so that during printing the pressure of the roller 3 on the stencil 9 is determined by the spring means. On moving the hand lever 1 to the left, the inking and impression roller 3 rolls over an ink pad 6 and thence over the stencil card 9 below which is a sheet to be printed, which is aligned by an adjustable stop 15. The card 9 is held normally clear of the sheet by blade springs 10<SP>11</SP>. The pressure of the roller 3 on the card is caused by springs 4 independently of the pressure exerted on the lever 1. The stroke of the roller 3 over the card 8 is limited by stops 17 engaging stop plates 10 adjustable by manually controlled cam discs 12 according to how much of the card 9 is to be printed from. The handle 1 may also control feeding of address cards in succession into printing position.
