Abstract

1,201,714. Addressing machine; stencilling. DYMO INDUSTRIES Inc. 29 Feb., 1968 [10 March, 1967], No. 9892/68. Headings B6C and B6D. A manually operated addressing machine, has a base 12, Fig. 1, and a flat platen 16 for receiving any one of a variety of workpieces, e.g. envelopes, cards, documents, which must be addressed. Above the platen 16 is a track assembly 18 mounted for movement toward and away from the base in response to the movement of operating means in the form of an operating handle 22 and associated apparatus. The track assembly carries hoppers 24 and 26, a stack of address stencils 28 being located in the hopper 24 such that the lowermost stencil may be withdrawn from the stack and carried along the assembly 18 by a pusher assembly 30 to a printing station 32 and then beyond this station to the receiving hopper 26. The pusher assembly is advanced or retracted by a finger 34. A printing mechanism 36 is also located above the platen 16 at the printing station 12 and is movable toward and away from the base, along with the assembly 18, in response to movement of the handle 22. Thus, in the present machine, each of the stencils 28 carries an address and when a stencil is positioned at the station 12 and an envelope is located on the platen 16 a downward push on the handle 22 will actuate the lever assembly, the track assembly will be brought downwardly against the envelope and the printing mechanism will print the address on the workpiece. A stopplate 40 provides a convenient shoulder 42 against which the envelope is placed for proper location at the printing station, the location of the shoulder 42 being selectively adjustable by a lever 44. The handle 22 and associated apparatus comprises levers 46, cam rollers 48 and the printing mechanism 36, which is carried by fulcrum brackets 54, Fig. 2, comprises a printing roller 66, Fig. 5, which, in the form of a roller squeegee presses ink through each address stencil on to an envelope. A toggle mechanism is used to positively hold the handle 22 &c. in its two extreme positions. The inking apparatus feeding the printing roller 66 comprises an inking roller 86 covered with an absorbent felt which is manually inked from time to time by the use of tiltable cylindrical ink reservoir 100. The machine is provided with a removable cover 120 which is hinged at the rear of the base to allow access, when necessary, to the ink supply system.
