Abstract
<PICT:0748870/III/1> <PICT:0748870/III/2> <PICT:0748870/III/3> In the short-path fractional distillation of liquid mixtures, the mixture is made to flow slowly as a thin film over a troughshaped vaporization surface disposed at an angle slightly inclined to the horizontal, and a temperature gradient is applied to the film so as to effect the simultaneous distillation of different fractions of the mixture, which are then condensed on individual cooling surfaces and collected in separate receivers. Distillation chamber 1 (Figs. 1 and 2), which is evacuated through connection 10, contains a trough 2 which is heated by oil circulation system 21. Distilland from storage vessel 9 (Fig. 3) flows into trough 2 through capillary tube 8 and ground-in joint 7. Storage vessel 9 is also connected to chamber 1 by tube 16 which is provided with a three-way cock 17 equipped with a needle valve for adjustment of a minimum overpressure above the distilland in vessel 9. Arranged around trough 2 is condenser 3 which is cooled by cooling liquid flowing in through tube 23 and leaving through tube 24. The condenser is provided with three pairs of flow-off points 4, 5, 6 which deliver three distillate-fractions to receivers 12, 13 and 14. Non-distilled liquid leaves the trough 2 from flow-off point 18, and is collected in receiver 15.
