Abstract

748,450. Cotton gins. KNIGHT, F. H. Oct. 19, 1954 [May 22, 1954], No. 15142/54. Class 120 (1). [Also in Group XXIV] A friction drive between the shafts 15, 12 of doffing and ginning rollers of a cotton gin comprises large and small friction wheels forming an assembly 21 carried on a pivoted frame 17 and engaging friction wheels 13, 16 respectively on the shafts 12, 15. The friction wheels are preferably of V-shape for lateral positioning and the frictional engagement is maintained by a weight 19. The drive can be readily disconnected by lifting the weighted end of the frame.
