Abstract
747,517. Aircraft. BLACKBURN & GENERAL AIRCRAFT, Ltd., and SPRINGHAM, J. March 15, 1954, No. 7495/54. Class 4. Operating gear for the tab 1 of an aircraft control surface, e.g. an elevator 3, comprises means 4 axially movable to impart movement to the tab, connected to a lever carrying a cam follower located in a cam slot in a lever pivoted to a fixed part eccentric to the surface hinge axis, so that on angular movement of the control surface, the cam slot lever rocks the other lever to adjust the tab, the cam slot lever being readily replaceable by one having a differently shaped cam. In Fig. 1, the tab is operable by a longitudinally movable tube 4 pivotally connected at 7 to a lever 8 rotatably mounted on a shaft 9. Pivoted at 12, eccentric to the elevator hinge axis 13, is a lever 11 having a slot 10 engaging a block 9<SP>1</SP> rotatably mounted on shaft 9, and a slot 15 engaging a roller 14 on one limb of lever 8. Movement of the elevator about axis 13 makes block 9<SP>1</SP> slide along slot 10, and roller 14 in slot 15 rotates lever 8 to alter the relationship of the tab and elevator. Independent operation of the tab is possible by rotating member 18 keyed to slider 17 which rotates a screw jack 16 to lengthen tube 4, which may also be connected by link 21 to an indicator 22 to indicate to the pilot the extent of trim.
