Abstract

A dentifrice comprises 0,005 to 0,5 per cent tyrothricin, and a polishing agent containing calcium or magnesium phosphates or carbonates e.g. dicalcium and tricalcium phosphates, and a water-insoluble salt of polymetaphosphoric acid, preferably an alkali-metal salt, which may contain up to 4 per cent of soluble phosphates. The polymetaphosphates e.g. Maddrell's and Kurrell's salts may constitute 5 to 95 per cent of the polishing agent, the remainder also acting as a buffer to maintain the pH between 6 and 7. Examples of pastes and powders are given.
