Abstract

746,832. Jet propulsion plant. ROLLSROYCE, Ltd. Feb. 10, 1954 [Feb. 10, 1953], No. 3774/53. Class 110(3) An exhaust system for a gas turbine engine which comprises an exhaust duct which divides into more than one duct has one or more cooling air conduits associated with the junction of the dividing ducts so as to cool the duct wall at the junction. The main exhaust duct 11, Figs. 2 and 3, divides into two ducts 14, 15. The junction 16 of the two walls, which is shaped as an arc of a circle, has an arcshaped conduit or muff 17 arranged on its upstream side. Part of the air from the compressor passing through the bypass air duct 12 is passed through the open ends 18 of the muff 17 and discharged back into the exhaust stream through openings 19. The ends 18 may be arranged nearer to or in the outlet 13 of the duct 12. A modification in which an annular duct divides into two circular ducts is also described. In this arrangement two V-shaped muffs are arranged upstream of diametrically opposite junctions. Air from the compressor of the plant is led to the bottom of the V and escapes through the space between the arms of the V and the duct walls.
