Abstract
746,527. Regenerative heat-exchangers. SVENSKA ROTOR MASKINER AKTIEBOLAG. Jan. 13, 1954 [Jan. 14, 1953], No. 971/54. Class 64(1). Relates to rotary re-generative heat-exchangers in which a rotor comprising a cylindrical shell 13 containing heattransfer material e.g. metallic plates 15, rotates within a housing, the wall 10 of which is cylindrical and radially spaced from the rotor shell, the housing also including end plates 19 apertured to allow the heat-exchanging fluids, e.g. air and hot gases, to flow through the rotor. According to the invention, a circumferential seal extends between the rotor shell 13 and the housing wall 10 and comprises an annular member 20 secured to the rotor shell and overlapping a further annular member 16 secured to the housing wall, 10 one of these annular members having a portion which is of flexible material such as fine-meshed metal fabric. In the arrangement shown, the member 20 is flexible and includes also a rigid portion 18 of arcuate cross-section which rests within a similarly shaped portion of the rigid member 16 secured to the housing. Stiffeners 22 may be provided to support the flexible part of the annular member 20. The annular member which incorporates the flexible material may be secured alternatively to the housing wall 10.
