Abstract

746,103. Lubricators. MILLER, G. D. Jan. 26, 1954, No. 2329/54. Class 12 (3). A lubricator for lubricating a journal com. prises a laminated body having a thickened portion provided with an arcuate surface less than semi-circular for contact with part of the journal, and a depending portion forming an oil wick, the entire body being composed of substantially parallel lengthwise-extending layers of coarse fibres and relatively fine fibres, the fine fibres forming a continuous oil lift to the arcuate surface. As shown in Fig. 1, an axle 12 is mounted in a bearing 11 provided with an opening 16 through which oil may be applied by an applicator 17 spring-pressed against the axle, and provided with a depending portion to lift oil from a reservoir 15 as described in Specification 715,026. The applicator may be constructed as shown in Fig. 4, in which layers 23 of coarse material, e.g. animal fibre, alternate with layers 26 of fine material, e.g. crocheted, woven or unwoven yarn, the layers being parallel with the side surface. In the construction shown in Fig. 8 the layers on the upper thickened portion of the lubricator are diagonally arranged, and the fine material terminates at the arcuate surface of the lubricator in rows of separate end portions 34.
