Abstract

744,359. Conveyers. LONDON BRICK CO., Ltd., and HERSEE, E. D. June 12, 1953 [June 12, 1952], No. 14857/52. Class 78 (1). The angular relationship of an article to a conveyer on which it travels is changed by transferring it from a first conveyer to a second conveyer at the desired angle relative to the first by means causing the article to be propelled forwards and upwards so as to leave the first conveyer and jump on to the second. As shown, bricks 2 from a number of forming presses (not shown) pass in lines on conveyers 3 to a collecting conveyer 1 over which each conveyer 3 projects a different amount to deposit the bricks in spaced rows. Conveyer 1, e.g. a roller conveyer, feeds the bricks to a section 4 provided with conical rollers 5 and guide 6 for transferring the bricks to a transverse conveyer 10. The spindles 5a, Fig. 4, of the rollers 5 project inwardly and are equipped with rollers 7 frictionally engaging a driving wheel 8. Conveyer 10, e.g. an endless belt 12, is provided with guides 11 for directing the articles in rows where they accumulate in contacting relationship against a stop 16, Fig. 3, positioned between three idling rollers 14 and a driven roller 15 on one side, and two rollers 17 driven at high speed on the other side. Upon release of stop 16 through cam means (not shown) the first brick in each row is caused to accelerate quickly by the rollers 17 so that it jumps to delivery conveyer 18 while the stop is returned by the cam means to stop the next row of bricks until the first row have been moved by conveyer 18 through gaps 19 in the guides 11.
