Abstract

744,065. Road sweepers. LEWIN ROAD SWEEPERS, Ltd. April 2, 1954 [April 2, 1953], No. 9128/53. Class 107. A road sweeping machine comprising a chassis 10 formed as a trailer and having a brush 17, a water tank 15 and spraying pipe 16 and a refuse receiving container 21, has the latter removable for emptying. The container 21 engages in a sweeping position with transverse girders (only one, 23, shown) a deflector plate 56 and resilient aprons 57 closing the top of the container which has a collecting opening adjacent the brush. Handles 36 one on each side of the container are provided coupled to wheel assemblies 30 so that by pulling down the handles the wheels 34 are urged downward onto the ground, thus slightly raising the container. In this position the container can be wheeled away and an empty one fitted. The refuse container support 20 is carried for longitudinal adjustment on rollers provided on the suspension members 50 and running on the chassis member 10. Locking handles 55 work on pads to prevent longitudinal displacement of the support 20 after adjustment. The suspension members 50 may, if desired, be telescopic to allow for a vertical adjustment of the container.
